The continuous development of the digital world has raise demands for young people to obtain multiple skills and competency. Not only in terms of digital expertise but also the social skills and cultural competencies to adapt to future digital world environment.
SOCIAL SKILLS It's essential for the future generation to possess such skills in order help them to fully participate in the digital future. Thus, these are a few skills younger people should improve on. 1. Open Minded In order to grasp the digital world, digital users should be unbiased, unprejudiced and non judgemental towards other users ideas, opinions and their perception about any subject matter. 2. Morality The digital world gives everyone the opportunity to voice their opinions and share their thoughts- its a widespread platform that encourages freedom of speech. However, a minority may misused this freedom and create an uproar. It's good that people are using social platforms to voice their thoughts but of course to some certain extent. Therefore, young users should know the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behaviour. Also, filter their words and learn what to say and what not to say at given situations. 3. Adaptability The digital world is always changing and developing so it is crucial to be able to adapt to new changes to be a part of the digital future. 4. Uncomformable It is truly essential to not let the internet shape our perception, beliefs, and attitude. If young users are easily influence they should not be continuously exposed to the digital world. The reason that lies behind that is, conformity may cause destruction to self identity. Therefore, young users should possess the ability to interpret and analyse messages available in the digital world. CULTURAL COMPETENCIES Cultural competence has been defined as a set of congruent behaviours, attitudes and policies that come together in a system, agency or among professionals and enables that system, agency, or those professionals to work effectively in cross-cultural situations. In the digital world scenario, young people should have 1. Cultural Awareness Users should be aware of the existence of other cultures and learn how to respect every one of them. All of us come from different backgrounds, lifestyle and practice different traditions. In order to fully participate in the digital world, we as rational users should understand that the digital world do not belong to us but to many others as well.We share it and that's what makes it whole. 2. Avoid Ethnocentrism Ethnocentrism is the tendency to think that one culture is superior to another. We all have once or maybe still think that way, we can't deny that fact. It's somehow an innate behaviour and sometimes we unintentionally express it. To stay connected to the digital world as a whole, young people should avoid offending other cultures instead they should gather cultural knowledge to be able to connect with other people around the world.
